After a few attempts, I noticed that the 2nd stick didn't seem to be seating in the socket exactly straight. The 2 Gigabytes available is a joy, although 1GB served my simple needs. The tips above will probably help at least some. Very random & doesn't occur regularly. But when I came back the machine was down and when I rebooted it gave a boot menu saying the computer hadn't shut down properly.

For Windows XP computers 128MB is a workable minimum depending on what applications you want to run, modules tend to be 128MB, 256MB or 512MB.
I have 4 RAM slots on my MOBO so is it better to get 8gb or 16gb in dual channel or get 4 sticks. Then enjoy! Or do you mean battery removal? And, yeah, graphics cards: A OK! After this test, if all is well (it's still no hotter than 55, yay!) I'll VERY carefully install everything in the case. In my opinion, though, the sweet spot is 8GB, which should allow you to run most applications and games in Windows. I guess this is a personal thing but I like to run recent drivers without them being the very latest.
