The problem should now be fixed. There has to be a fix around shortly, it is causing no end of problems! Have the same issue here with Office 2010 (on Win7)users opening files from a Samba server and not being able to save changes back. ONLY Windows 7 clients, with Office 2007 or Office 2010, upon first access of a network document.
Microsoft will not offer any advice as to how to stop the DDE for good, only that there is an underlying problem that is causing this problem...typical. The /a switch is intended as a troubleshooting tool only, and you shouldn't continue to use it to start Word. This step works for Windows Vista/7/8/8.1/10. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
It was purchased with XP as the OS. I have a virus scanner on my server. Its is slow to open Office docs from the shared drive and slow to attach office docs in Outlook. What is the benefit of letting your customers dig this up on their own?
